About Chuck
Chuck Schmalzried has managed to build a legacy for himself in the home-building and construction industry. Armed with a passion for hard work and the meaning it can bring to one’s life, Chuck is now the Co-Owner of Michelle Construction, a home-building company located near Devil’s Lake in Michigan. In this role, Chuck and his partner – Michelle (Micky) – draw upon their years of well-respected success to deliver one-of-a-kind homes. Michelle is known for its excellent craftsmanship, creating homes that are beautiful and timeless with a modern appeal.
Chuck’s career in construction began to take hold of him between the summers of his high school days. Learning under the mentorship of a skilled carpenter and from his father in downtime around the house, he managed to craft a valuable skill – one that, at the time – he was unaware of how much it would benefit his life. After graduating from high school, Chuck tried the college thing for a bit. But he quickly realized his calling was pushing him past the conventional everyday and far into the horizon. This calling eventually found its fruition in Chuck’s service in the United State’s Air Force.
Chuck Schmalzried served in the Air Force from 1986-1992, serving active duty in Operation Desert Storm. Unbeknownst to him at the time, but his time in the Air Force was shaping him into somebody well-acquainted with hard work, a foreshadowing of his future career in home-building. After an honorable discharge from the military, Chuck settled in Ohio and joined the Ohio National Guard. Here, he worked odd jobs in construction until 1998, when he joined his father and, as a team, they started their own construction business – Schmalzried Custom Homes. After this business disbanded, he moved into his current role at Michelle – something he loves more every day.
But above the ability to make something beautiful out of nothing, Chuck Schmalzried’s favorite part about what he does is the ability it gives him to form meaningful relationships with the people he builds homes for. Truly living out the motto of “homes over houses,” Chuck is passionate about building a home in which people can raise a family, create everlasting memories, and foster a deep love for one another.
In addition to his career, Chuck is passionate about sharing stories of the brave men and women who serve in our armed forces, always eager to shine a spotlight on their sacrificial work that allows us to experience the freedom of this great country.
